LIFE returning to the Old Town ?

The Kings Arms re-opened its doors on 27 May 22. I hesitate to say “finally” but it has been a long time coming… “The Kings” has spent more time closed than open over recent years

It had been run as a “joint enterprise” along with the Dog, by Natalie and Maz, but eventually they decided to concentrate on the Dog, and the Kings began its recent history of long closures
Eventually it was bought by Stockport based accountant Shahab Mirtorabi who spent years and far more money than he had planned re-vamping the premises.

When it reopened I think most of us were underwhelmed because despite the money and time spent it was essentially a duplicate of what had been, simply cleaned up and polished but other than Persian cuisine little new ideas. Despite some marketing attempts the Kings Arms did not thrive and the hotel rooms were left unused, after several years of poor results and escalating costs the Kings again closed

So during the latter part of the pandemic, we were interested to see activity at the rear of the Kings. this eventually turned out to be the “Old Town Bakehouse Project”, but there was clearly more, activity within the interior of the Kings was noted, Activity escalate in April and early May, and the Kings received a dramatic new image, being repainted externally very dark grey (even black) and with new Gold Leaf signwriting.

On May 27th it opened with a huge range of draft beers, and plans to develop into a GastroPub, Its great to see this building at the top of the Market Place back in business, and we are looking forward to more developments both on the dining facilities and also accommodation
