Cenotaph 100Years Old

100 years ago the Chapel-en-le-Frith Cenotaph was officially opened as part of the first memorials erected in just six months after the war to honour those who died in the First World War.

Today along with the Royal British Legion we came together to remember those whose have fallen and the soldiers who fought all those years ago. Wreaths were laid and a moment of silence held in memory of all those  who didn’t return home from conflicts in service of their country.

Members of the British Legion, the council and the Chapel-en-le-Frith Carnival committee also laid wreaths. Flags of the Commonwealth were but at the war graves in the church yard.

The program consisted of the last post, a moment of silence, Reveille and the Kohima Epitaph, prayer and wreath laying. The memorial is a splendid way to honour not only those who died in World War One but to remember all people who served past, present and future.
